Benefits of R8 Audi

Advantage R8

What truly tips the scales though in the R8’s favor should you line her up in your order list is that she is comfortably lesser than what you would consider paying for a 911 Carrera 4S and nearly half as expensive as its own adopted Italian sibling, the Lamborghini Gallardo. And overall the R8 is much the better of the trio in an all-round manner. Makes one think doesn’t it? No, not because I have the money but because Audi will begin selling the R8 from November this year to those will heeled types with a mere couple of cores lying as petty cash in their dressing room drawers. Point is this could be the most effective and fun inducing purchase they could ever make with this quantum of petty cash.

R8 best for the rough riders

Rough riders
An all aluminum super structure is the starting point and the most important detail behind the rock like stability of the R8. The mid-engined layout coupled to Audi’s fabled all wheel drive Quattro system makes the R8 a most predictable performer even at the uppermost reaches of her performance envelope and that’s a mighty assuring detail. Getting wrong at 300 km/h even if it doesn’t feel so in the cockpit is a lousy feeling but the R8 has it all covered there is none of that snap over-steer exhibited by many mid-engined super cars when the right foot is planted to the floor coming out of the corners. The controls are sensitive yet so superlatively configured that the R8 is almost telepathic in its behavior. Racecar inspired twin wishbone suspension at all four ends helps as does the optional Magnetic Ride shocks which can change the ride from comfort to sport to hardcore racer.
I always thought the Porsche 911 to be the ultimate all round practical sports car but the R8 has it beat, massively! Audi’s quality build pervades all over, inside and out the ergonomics and creature comforts are in the Bentley league while giving Toyota a run for its money as regards reliability. The styling is not as adventurous as any of the Latino super cars but in an understated Teutonic manner it seems par for the course.

Audi’s R8 body spec

Body Spec
The R8 wiggled its tail maybe in delight, but the Quattro drive had those large 18 inch tyres bite just enough and it was back in line, making me smile and aim for the fast right hander coming up followed by a sweeping left. The amazing thing is not that the R8 can do this sort of fun stuff all day long; it just goes on doing it so effortlessly without scaring its pilot. Of course, the pilot needs to be in peak physical condition because this car can pull massive G’s around corners. So, effectively adept it is at sticking to terra firma yet hurtling around bends as if the DNA from those Le Mans winning Audi endurance race cars is oozing manifold for mere mortals to revel in.
First Blood
It was in hindsight the right decision I had made to go in for the version with the 6- speed manual transmission first. It may have had a notchy shift from second to third but once you mastered the exact point of the clutch biting and engaging, this manual shift was your one single key to fun in a superlative machine. Trouble was the revs from the 4.2 liter R8 just built up so fast in any gear that in the early laps I was constantly hitting the rev limter! Move on to the next weapon in the R8’s armory- the fabulous 6-speed R-tronic sequential shift gearbox. One every up shift there was a smile inducing whoof from the exhaust which was massively amplified when going down the box. Talk about sensory delights and this was just one of many. With this tranny, the drop off under shifting was minimal and the manner in which the R8 could be made to hustle was electrifying but yet so serene.

The New Audi’s R8

To those who marvel at the fire breathing abilities of Ferraris and Lamborghini’s plus also some of the hairy Porsche 911s of the 1990s, sports cars of this ilk meant that they had to be difficult to master and tame and thus their appeal. Today in an era where electronics have tamed so much of a car’s wayward character, thankfully there are ye some cars which by their very nature are easy to drive fast, not just in a straight line but also round corners.
I found the new Audi R8 super car to be in this league. Howling down the main straight on the Lausitzring road course on the outskirts of Dresden I had the silver beauty in fourth gear, the revs nicely building up to abut 6500 rpm before the braking marker boards came up for the almost 90 degree left hander swooping low down followed y a fast and twisty right left flick. I am being honest, if it wan any other car I would have braked much earlier, lifted off as well and might have gone down even to the first to get through. In the R8, it was just a momentary lift of the right foot, down a cog through the slotted gate to third and on the gas almost instantaneously. How I could relate to this was the fact that Jochi Kleint would have left me for dead had I done the conventional thing but the R8 is anything but conventional yet is so precise and easy that it endows mere mortals with that Michael Schumacher feel.
